Hello Fresh VS Home Chef VS Green Chef Meal Kit Comparison

Hello Fresh VS Home Chef

Meal kit subscription companies deliver boxes of fresh, pre-portioned ingredients and chef-created recipes to your doorstep. The problem is that there are so many to choose from. To help save money and time cooking in the kitchen here is a meal kit comparison of Hello Fresh VS Home Chef VS Green Chef.

I don’t know about you but since my toddler started getting pickier meal planning has become very stressful and time consuming every week. Meal kit subscription boxes are a great way for busy moms like you to save time meal planning and cooking.

Hello Fresh, Home Chef, and Green Chef are meal kit and food delivery companies that deliver pre-portioned ingredients and recipes to subscribers weekly.

Each week you choose how many meals you want, serving sizes, and recipes. Each meal kit comes with recipe instruction cards. They are also very flexible. You can skip  a week or cancel your subscription at anytime.

Hello Fresh

The first meal I prepared from Hello Fresh was Presto Pesto Panko Chicken with roasted potatoes and green salad.

The potatoes needed to be cooked longer than the directions stated and the salad was very plain. This was my least favorite meal.

The second meal I prepped was Lauren Conrad’s Chicken Tacos with Radish tomato pico de gallo and avocado. This was my second favorite meal!

The avocado and tomato weren’t fully ripe yet and the green onion was turning brown already, but the radish Pico De Gallo was still delicious.

Home Chef

Home Chef offers easy recipes Prepped, pre-portioned ingredients that cook in about 15-30 minutes.

The first meal I prepared Home Chef was Chicken Taco Stuffed Chilis. The chicken came out very flavorful and moist and I love the idea of using chilis in place of tortillas for tacos!

The second meal I prepared was Chicken Scampi with Lemon and Ciabatta. This one was my favorite because I love garlic and Pasta!

Chicken Scampi

The third meal I prepared was Cajun Shrimp and Grits. It mostly tasted like tomato sauce but it was ok.

Green Chef

After receiving a coupon in the mail I decided to try out Green Chef. One thing I noticed is that their menu is very excotic compared to hello fresh and home chef. This is great if you want to try new flavors but I have a picky toddler and husband so it was hard to choose meals which defeated the whole purpose.

The day I was suppose to receive my Green Chef box I tracked my box and UPS said the box was damaged and that they would notify the sender. I thought I would receive the box the next day but I didn’t receive or hear anything from Green Chef.

A couple days later I emailed their customer service department because at that point I was a little frustrated since I had to order delivery each night while waiting for the box. I received an email back that they would issue me a credit and discount the next box so I decided to take their offer and placed the order for the next box.

The following week not only did I not receive the new box but they also charged me twice instead of using my credit. I emailed them asking them to cancel the order and to cancel my whole subscription.

2 weeks later I received an invoice for Green chef in my email for about $65. I sent them an email asking them for another refund and to cancel my subscription. This time I actually received the box but ended up giving it to a friend because I was going out of town for a few days and didn’t want to waste food

Basically, I never got to try their food but I will NOT be ordering from them again.

My Final Thoughts,

The ingredients I received in the Home Chef Box were fresher than the ingredients I received from Hello Fresh.

I preferred Home Chef’s meal options over Hello Fresh.

Green Chef was a bust.

Overall, Hello Fresh and Home Chef meal kits are convenient and fun to make.

In my opinion Home Chef is the winner!

These meal services aren’t something our family needs, but it is good to know the pros and cons of each in case we ever try it.
