How To Organize Your Makeup To Help You Save Time

Makeup Organization Ideas

Do you struggle to find that eyeshadow you were looking for, or your favorite mascara?

Like you, I have wasted so much time looking for what I need, while getting ready.

To save time, I decided to clean and organize my makeup collection.

Makeup Organization

First,

When organizing anything, the first step is to get rid of everything that “Doesn’t spark joy”. At least that’s what Marie Kondo says.

First, I gathered my makeup into three piles.

The first pile was expired makeup, the second pile was the makeup that I was giving away, and the third was everything I decided to keep.

Next, I cleaned my vanity and storage containers.

Once all that was done, I went shopping for storage containers and dividers.

Makeup Palette

Makeup Palettes

One day, I was going through my makeup palettes to find one with a specific shade of brown. I quickly realized that it takes me a long time to find the palette I need because they all look so similar.

I decided to organize them but didn’t know how. I was going to sort them by number, but I could never remember the numbers.

Instead, I took pictures of each palette, printed the pictures on sticky label paper, and put the labels on the corresponding pallets. This trick saves me so much time!

After you put the labels on them you can use these dividers to separate them.

Eyeshadow Palette organization

Makeup Brushes

There are many ways to organize your makeup brushes. The most affordable way is to use mugs or cups from your kitchen.

You can also find pen holders at the dollar store, office supply store, Target or on Amazon.

I found a container specifically for cosmetic brushes on Amazon. You can use beads to keep them separated.

Lip Products

Lip Products

I have two organization methods for lip products.

First, you need to separate your lip products. You can separate by the type of lip product or by color.

When separating by lip product you can divide them into 6 categories:

  1. Lipstick
  2. Lip liner
  3. Lip gloss
  4. Lip Stain
  5. Liquid lipstick
  6. Lip balm/scrub.

If you separate your lip products by the color you can divide them into four categories: nudes, pinks, reds, and purples.

When you are done separating them you can either put them into dollar store bins or an acrylic container.

False Lashes

Lashes

False lashes can be organized into two categories: Natural and Dramatic.

After your separate them, you can put them into dollar store bins or an acrylic container.

Single Shadows

When organizing single eyeshadows, you should separate them into categories.

You can separate them by brand, color, size, or texture. Once you have divided them, you can store them in bins or acrylic containers.

Eyeliners

Eyeliner /Mascara

I recently disposed of most of my eyeliners and mascaras because they were expired.

Now, that I only have a few, I use a pen holder to store them.

If you have many different eyeliners and/or mascaras you can use bins or acrylic containers to separate them.

Makeup Organizers

I got my makeup vanity table from Ikea. I love that it has an easy to clean glass top. I also like the large, smooth gliding drawer that stores most of my makeup, so that It’s hidden.

I love the Ikea Alex drawers because the drawers are long and deep, (“that’s what she said”) and they open and close effortlessly. Michaels has an affordable IKEA Alex drawer dupe.

You can find great affordable acrylic containers at Marshalls, Homegoods, Tj Maxx, or on Amazon.

Decorative glass trays are great for storing your daily skincare or makeup products. Here are some examples:

I found this one at TJ Maxx or Marshalls

Wow! You did such a great job organizing all of that! My collection is much smaller, so I keep it in one simple storage container.
