Newborn Essentials to Add to Your Baby Registry Must-Haves (First 3 Months)

Newborn Essentials List

As a new mom, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the baby products out there. To help you save time and money, I’ve created a real-life guide to the baby registry must-haves you’ll actually use during your baby’s first 3 months. These are the newborn essentials we personally used and loved, and many are available through the Amazon Baby Registry—which offers completion discounts, fast shipping, and free welcome boxes.

Baby Registry Must-Haves

Bassinet or Portable Play yard

If you don’t have space for a crib in your room or you want baby to nap in the living room, a Pack ‘n Play with bassinet insert is a great space-saving solution. The bassinet bed can be easily removed from the baby playard. The baby travel playard is compact and doesn’t take up much space. A carry bag is convenient for storage and transport, the travel cot fits in the trunk of a car and is perfect for travel. We used the portable placard in the living room for naps and for travel and the Halo BassiNest in our bedroom for night time sleep until she was able to toll over.

Diapers

We tried several diaper brands, and our favorites are Everylife and Amazon Mama Bear Diapers. They’re fragrance-free, have a wetness indicator, and are super gentle on baby’s skin.

Money-Saving Tip: Add them to your Amazon Subscribe & Save to save more and never run out.

Baby Wipes

Sensitive baby skin needs gentle care. We have tried so many baby wipes and the ones we always go back to are the Coterie unscented baby wipes . They are plastic free and made with 99% water and 100% plant-based fibers. Each wipe is up to 30% larger than other brands, ultra-soft, and gentle on sensitive skin. Coterie wipes are EWG Verified and have received the National Eczema Association’s Seal of Acceptance.

Car Seat & Stroller Combo

You’ll need a car seat to leave the hospital, so this is a must. We loved the Doona Car seat stroller combo Because it was light weight and you could move baby from car seat to stroller at the click of a button, without disturbing your sleeping infant. It is very pricey BUT it has a great resale value. We used ours for almost a year then sold it for $400 on FB marketplace. You can add it to your registry and if no one purchease it and you can’t afford it you can check FB marketplace for one at a lower price.

Chicco KeyFit Magic is great too and more affordable. It’s lightweight compared to many other carseats and easy to click into a compatible Chicco stroller.

Healthcare & Grooming Kit

The Fridababy Bitty Bundle of Joy is a lifesaver. It includes the NoseFrida, gas relief tools, nail clippers, a peri bottle for mom, and more. Trust me, you’ll use every item.

Cool Mist Humidifier

The Frida baby cool mist humidifier helps relieve congestion and dryness for up to 60 hours!

  • Filter-free
  • Auto shut-off
  • Led night light
  • Low-water indicator
  • 360 dual-mist spout
  • Whisper-quiet design.

My Brest Friend Nursing Pillow

This is hands-down one of the best breastfeeding pillows for new moms. The My Brest Friend Pillow provides firm, flat support, and it clips around your waist to stay in place—so you’re not constantly adjusting it during feeds. Add this to your registry but if you don’t get it at your baby shower and it’s not in your budget you can find them on FB marketplace all the time.

Muslin Blankets

Use them as swaddles, burp cloths, nursing covers, or car seat covers. We love Aden + Anais for their breathable cotton and cute prints.

Baby Pajamas and Sleep Sacks

Make sure you add premie, newborn, and size 0-3 pajamas to your registry because you have no idea what size your baby will be when it is born. My favorite are the Burt’s Bees organic pajamas because they are so soft on your baby’s gentle skin and made from organic material. Neither of my girls liked to be swaddled so when we discovered the Love to Dream sleep sack it was a game changer.

Baby Mittens and Beanies

Newborns have sharp little nails. Soft cotton mittens and beanies will keep their face scratch-free and keep their head warm.

Burp Cloths

You’ll need one in every room. I like these Organic cotton burp cloths because they are easy to carry on your shoulder without slipping off. They are also absorbent enough for spit up and soft enough to wipe your baby’s face.

Baby Carrier or Wrap

A baby carrier and baby wrap is a must for your baby registry. They let you be hands-free while keeping your baby close. Ideal for errands, walks, or just soothing a fussy newborn. I love and used the Tula baby carrier for both my girls. It is pricey but worth the investment. It is easy to adjust for infants and toddlers, comfortable with its breathable and cool mesh material, and machine washable. I also loved the Kea baby wrap when my baby was a newborn.

Sound Machine with Night Light

Late-night feedings are easier with a dimmable touch-controlled night light like the Hatch Rest baby sound machine and night light. It 𝗂𝗌 𝗍𝗁𝖾 𝖺𝗅𝗅-𝗂𝗇-𝗈𝗇𝖾 𝗌𝗅𝖾𝖾𝗉 𝖽𝖾𝗏𝗂𝖼𝖾 𝗍𝗁𝖺𝗍 𝗍𝖾𝖺𝖼𝗁𝖾𝗌 𝗁𝖾𝖺𝗅𝗍𝗁𝗒 𝗌𝗅𝖾𝖾𝗉 𝗁𝖺𝖻𝗂𝗍𝗌. You can adjust the light and sound from your phone 𝗁𝖾𝗅𝗉𝗌 𝗍𝗁𝖾 𝗐𝗁𝗈𝗅𝖾 𝖿𝖺𝗆𝗂𝗅𝗒 𝗌𝗅𝖾𝖾𝗉 𝖾𝖺𝗌𝗂𝖾𝗋.

Crib

Even if you’re starting with a bassinet or Pack ‘n Play, a crib is an essential. Our toddler is using the DaVinci crib we got for our first daughter 7 years ago.

  • GREENGUARD Gold Certified Crib: Rigorously tested for over 10,000 chemical emissions. Finished with a non-toxic painting process, lead and phthalate-safe, our crib ensures a clean, healthy space for your baby to sleep, play, and grow.
  • Transitions from crib to toddler bed, daybed, and full-size bed as your little one grows. Easy-to-follow instructions for hassle-free assembly.

Add a firm crib mattress and at least two fitted sheets.

Diaper Bag

We love the Itzy Ritzy Diaper Bag. It’s stylish, roomy, and durable—plus it comes with a matching changing pad.

Baby Lounger

Supporting Your Baby’s Growth and Comfort an infant lounger gently supports your baby’s back and can be used for tummy time playing, lounging, or learning to sit, the lounger provides gentle, comforting support. We used ours for nap time because it made our babies feel safe and comfortable enough to fall asleep.

Rolling Utility Cart

A rolling utility cart is a must for new moms. Stock your cart with diapers, wipes, snacks, breast pump, nipple cream, and water—and roll it wherever you need.

Haakaa Silicone Breast Pump

The Haakaa Breast Pump is a great for collecting letdown while nursing on the opposite side. It’s affordable, silent, and easy to use—no cords or batteries required.

Add a couple to your registry. You’ll want one in your diaper bag and one at home!

Baby Bottles

These Philips Avent Natural Glass Bottles are perfect if you plan to pump, supplement, or bottle-feed. They’re made of thermal shock–resistant glass, have a wide breast-shaped nipple to support natural latch, and are BPA-free. If you don’t feel comfortable using glass you can use the silicone Comotomo baby bottles. They are designed to mimic breastfeeding, helping babies easily transition from breast to bottle.

The glass bottles hold up great in the dishwasher and don’t retain odors like plastic ones can.

Hey Britt, it would be awesome to see what you put in the pink rolling cart. Looks like a great idea for Mothers, 🙂

  • Oh yes, I agree with many of these! Muslin blankets are so soft and perfect for a new baby and the Doc a Tot is an essential that you don’t realize that you need until you have a baby. Love the list!

Good ideas! We used most of these things as well, except the diaper pail and a few others, but that’s just us! And yes, the Amazon registry is a lifesaver!!!
