Making new mom friends can be challenging, especially when you’re juggling the demands of motherhood and possibly feeling isolated. If you’re wondering how to make new mom friends, you’re not alone. Many new moms struggle to find their tribe, but luckily, there are free apps designed to help you connect, build friendships, and find support with other moms near you. In this post, I’ll share the best ways to use these free apps so you can easily make new mom friends and feel part of a community again.
If you’re wondering how to make friends as a mom, you’re in the right place.
Before having my daughter, I was shy and socially awkward and cared too much about what others thought of me. Like many Introverts, I would overthink everything I said and keep my mouth shut because I was afraid of offending people.
In 2019 we moved from CA to Texas. I had no friends and the only person I knew was my sister in law and my realtor. Reading self development books helped me build confidence in myself and create new friendships, even at in the middle of the pandemic.
Finding mom friends and meeting mom friends isn’t easy. With that being said whether you’re a new mom, single mom, stay at home mom, working mom, a work from home mom, living in a new city or an introvert lacking social skills, I got you!
Here are 5 simple ways to help you meet other moms and learn how to be a good friend so you can find your new BFFs!

Stop Overthinking It
If you think you will never make new mom friends because you are too shy, too loud, too opinionated, or too socially awkward let me tell you, you are wrong!
Stop feeling sorry for yourself and stop lying to yourself. Step outside of your comfort zone. Being shy has only gotten you this far so try something different.
I learned some great ways to build confidence through self development books and podcast. You can listen to them while you cook, clean, or workout.
My favorite self-development books at the moment are:
My favorite self development podcasts at the moment are:
- Mornings With Neno
- The Veronica Bay Show
- The Brendon Show
While you are working on your confidence and building your social skills try to figure out what kind of mom friends you want. Do you want to meet stay at home moms, working moms, crunchy moms, or breastfeeding moms?
Once you decide what kind of mom friends you want you can start searching.
Make New Mom Friends on Instagram
Here are 3 simple ways you can use Instagram to make new mom friends:
- Hashtags
- Places
- People You May Know
#Hashtags
One way to make mom friends on instagram is by searching these hashtags:
#MomFriends
#HoustonMoms (or your city)
#BreastfeedingMoms
#CrunchyMoms
#ChristianMoms
#HomeschoolMoms
or any hashtag that relates to the type of mom friend you want or can relate to.
For example, when I moved to Houston I searched #houstonmoms and follow some moms that lived near by. I noticed one of them that I had been following for a while posted an IG story of her walking her baby at a local park. After telling her I love to go on walks to she invited me to meet up with her and now we are great friends and meet up for walks.
Places/ Locations
Another way to meet moms through Instagram is by search local places you like to go like restaurants, coffee shops, or parks and following other moms who go there. You can follow them on IG and let them know you love that place and maybe ask if she wants to meet up there.
People You May Know
When scrolling Instagram will show you people you may know follow the people you have something in common with and respond to their IG stories to get on their DMs and start a conversation.
You can also go to your friends profiles and follow their followers that you may know or that may be your next bestie.
Here are my closest mom friends that I met through Instagram:

5 years agoI didn’t know there were apps for moms to meet each other. That’s pretty ingenious because it can be hard for home bound moms to meet other mom friends.

5 years agoI’ve tried the Peanut app and though I haven’t physically met up with any moms from it, it was nice to get to chatting with other moms.
