We love choosing curriculum that encourages a love of learning instead of endless worksheets, and this year’s lineup includes a mix of hands-on learning, living books, and engaging lessons.

Some of these resources are favorites we’ve already used, while others are brand new additions that we’re excited to try this year.

Our 3rd Grade Math Curriculum

Math with Confidence (Third Grade)

This is one curriculum we absolutely loved, so we’re using it again this year.

One of our favorite things about Math with Confidence is that each lesson includes fun games and hands-on activities that make math feel enjoyable instead of overwhelming. The lessons are short, interactive, and easy to fit into our homeschool day while still building a strong foundation in math.

If your child learns best through play and conversation instead of pages of repetitive worksheets, I highly recommend taking a look at this curriculum.

This year we’re adding a fun geography study to our 3rd grade homeschool curriculum focused on all 50 states.

I’m excited for my daughter to learn about state capitals, landmarks, geography, and interesting facts while helping her better understand the United States. It’s a great addition to our history studies.

One of my goals this year is to intentionally include more character-building books to our 3rd grade homeschool curriculum.

The Children’s Book of Virtues is filled with classic stories, poems, and lessons that teach qualities like honesty, courage, kindness, responsibility, perseverance, and compassion. I love that it encourages meaningful family discussions while building strong values.

Reading

Little House on the Prairie Series

the little house on the prairie 3rd grade homeschool curriculum living books. Charlotte Mason Literature.

This year we’ll be reading through the beloved Little House on the Prairie books together for our 3rd grade homeschool curriculum.

Living books are one of my favorite parts of homeschooling because they help children connect with history through memorable stories instead of dry textbooks. I’m excited to experience these classics together while also strengthening reading comprehension.

Handwriting

Pretty Simple Lettering

This year we’re also adding Pretty Simple Lettering to our homeschool routine for handwriting practice.

I wanted a handwriting curriculum that felt fun and creative instead of repetitive, and Pretty Simple Lettering was exactly what I was looking for. It is simple enough for elementary students while helping them develop neat handwriting, confidence, and fine motor skills.

I also love that it introduces basic lettering techniques, making handwriting practice feel more like art than another worksheet. It’s a great way to encourage creativity while strengthening an important everyday skill.

What is the best homeschool curriculum for 3rd grade?

The best 3rd grade homeschool curriculum depends on your child’s learning style. We prefer a literature-rich, hands-on approach that encourages curiosity and a love of learning. This year we’re using Math with Confidence, All About Spelling, Tuttle Twins U.S. History, The Children’s Book of Virtues, Little House on the Prairie, Pretty Simple Lettering, and a 50 States geography book.

Why did we choose Math with Confidence?

Math with Confidence has been one of our favorite homeschool resources because the lessons include games, hands-on activities, and short, engaging instruction. My daughter enjoys learning math instead of feeling overwhelmed by it.

Is this curriculum Charlotte Mason inspired?

While we don’t follow Charlotte Mason exclusively, many of the books we’ve chosen reflect that style of learning by incorporating living books, narration, character development, and meaningful discussions instead of relying solely on textbooks.

What reading books are we using in 3rd grade?

Our primary read-aloud and independent reading series this year isย Little House on the Prairie. These timeless stories help bring history to life while building vocabulary and reading comprehension.

Where can I buy these homeschool books?
